Un altro sabato da re di Coppa per Gerhard Kerschbaumer e la TX Active-Bianchi. Sabato 9 luglio l’atleta altoatesino ha conquistato la sua terza vittoria nella Coppa del Mondo MTB, seconda in otto giorni, a Windham (Stati Uniti). Kerschbaumer ha percorso i cinque giri per 28,7 km totali in 1.23’24”, precedendo di 59 secondi lo svizzero Matthias Stirnemann e di 1’36” il belga Sebastien Carabin, e confermandosi leader della classifica generale degli U23 con 362 punti. Il biker italiano si era già imposto a Pietermaritzburg (Sudafrica) e Mont Sainte Anne (Canada) Proprio il successo in terra canadese e la maglia bianca di leader hanno dato ulteriore sicurezza a Kerschbaumer, che sin dalle battute iniziali ha controllato la gara senza strafare. Dopo aver tenuto a bada i principali avversari, ha impresso l’accelerazione decisiva all’inizio del quarto giro, staccando definitivamente Carabin e Stirnemann. “Ha corso in maniera intelligente, confermando di meritare la leadership di Coppa del Mondo” ha commentato Massimo Ghirotto, team manager della TX Active-Bianchi. A due prove dal termine della Coppa del Mondo MTB, Kerschbaumer ha 112 punti di vantaggio sull’austriaco Alexander Gehbauer e 152 su Stirnemann, gli unici due aritmeticamente in grado di insidiarne il primato. Ora l’attenzione della squadra del presidente Felice Gimondi si sposta su Stephane Tempier, a caccia di un piazzamento nella Top-10 fra gli Elite. Domenica 10 luglio, invece, Cristian Cominelli e Tony Longo saranno invece impegnati nel Trofeo Cerro Veronese, in Veneto. Tutti i cinque atleti dello Junior Team, fra cui il tricolore uscente Federico Barri, giocheranno invece le loro carte nei campionati italiani giovanili XC a Odolo (Brescia).
