Coppa del Mondo MTB, Kerschbaumer vince in Canada e torna leader fra gli U23 Gerhard Kerschbaumer è tornato re della Coppa del Mondo MTB nella categoria U23, vincendo la quarta prova a Mont Sainte Anne, in Canada, sabato 2 luglio. Una vittoria prestigiosa, nel tempio della mountain bike e su un percorso tecnico e impegnativo, che ha riportato l’atleta della TX Active-Bianchi in vetta alla classifica generale, davanti all’austriaco Alexander Gehbauer, assente in Quebec. Kerschbaumer, che aveva già vinto la prima gara del challenge UCI a Pietermaritzburg (Sudafrica), ha preceduto di 1’31” il francese Fabien Canal (GT Skoda Chamonix) e di 2’15” lo svizzero Matthias Stirnemann (Thoemus Racing Team), tagliando il traguardo trionfante con la sua bici Methanol SL2 sollevata in alto. L’italiano ha percorso i cinque giri in programma, per 22,8 km totali, con il tempo di 1.23’56”. “Sapevo di poter vincere – ha dichiarato un contento Kerschbaumer – e sono riuscito a fare la gara che volevo. Ho seguito Canal e Stirnemann all’inizio, poi li ho staccati al terzo giro. Da lì alla fine sono riuscito a gestire il vantaggio con grande tranquillità”. Poi un pensiero all’avversario delle prime tre prove, Gehbauer: “Non so perché non è venuto. Forse aveva paura”, ha scherzato con grande personalità l’altoatesino. In classifica generale, Kerschbaumer vola a 272 punti dopo i primi quattro round, 22 più di Gehbauer, grazie ai 2 successi in Sudafrica e Canada, al secondo posto di Dalby Forest (Gran Bretagna) e al decimo di Offenburg (Germania). Il prossimo weekend nuovo impegno oltreoceano, a Windham, negli Stati Uniti. I followed Canal and Stirnemann when they speeded up, then I outdistanced them in the third lap. Since then to the end, I controlled my advantage without problems”, a happy Kerschbaumer noticed after the race. Then, he cracked a joke about Gehbauer, his main opponent in World Cup: “I don’t know why he wasn’t here. Maybe he was afraid of me”, told Italian rider, showing a great personality. Kerschbaumer now leads the U23 ranking with 272 points after four rounds, 22 more than Gehbauer, thanks to the 2 victories in South Africa and Canada, the second place in Dalby Forest (UK) and the 10th one in Offenburg (Germany).
